Strategies
A Place Called Home will work with government and local agencies to find teen girls who have been displaced and have nowhere else to go. Applications will be accepted, with teen mothers getting first choice to secure housing with us. We plan to offer counseling, free tutoring (encouragement for them to stay in school), onsite daycare or a location nearby, cooking classes and financial planning. Eventually, all teens will be able to move out on their own and know how to budget their finances in order to make it. Each “home” will have a live in “mother”, who is there to encourage and guide each teen on a day-to-day basis. She is also there to be a disciplinarian and a confidant.

Funds Required
A Place Called Home will operate primarily through grants from the government and other organizations. Fundraising will occur throughout the year, with the teen girls helping to raise money for their day-to-day personal needs.

Career Possibilities

Hello,

My name is Melissa Greathouse-Marshall. I am currently working on my Bachelors Plus degree in Integrated Science (7-12) at Capital University, located in Columbus, OH. I am interested in a position that I found on the USA JOBS website. The position is for a Speech Language Pathologist. I noticed that you have the same position, or currently recruit for this position. If at all possible, I have a few additional questions about the position and was wondering if you would be able to answer them for me.

1. Since I am currently in an Integrated Science track, what track would you suggest I switch to in order to qualify for this type of position?

2. Do you feel that you make a different when you make a recommendation or do you feel that they only take part of what you recommend?

3. How much interaction do you have with the students outside of the evaluation?

4. Do you work closely with anyone else in order to ensure the recommendations are followed?

I appreciate all of your time in answering my questions or just reading my email. Please feel free on contact me by email if you have any additional questions or information you would like to share with me.

Sincerely,

Melissa Greathouse-Marshall
